java based query analyzer
4/13/01 Manish Shahs Smart Sybase Editor (asse.sourceforge.net)

4/2/01 BriansTools

utilities
ISQL Replacements & Query Tools
01/10/00 Imran Hussain has WIN SQL as well as other
free tools
12/17/99 Dataviewer 2.7 -
a
NT windows utility to view and manipulate your DDL
SQSH A robust, portable replacement for isql named Sqsh
is found on Scott
Gray's web site. Sqsh is much more than a nice prompt, it is
intended to provide much of the functionality provided by a good shell,
such as variables, redirection, pipes, back-grounding, job control,
history, command completion, and dynamic configuration. It is available
for most UNIX systems.
02/15/00Dezign for
databases is a database development tool using an entity
relationship diagram. It
visually supports the lay out of the entities and relations and
automatically
generates SQL-schemas for most leading databases. "Dezign for
databases"
also supports domains (user defined types). (840kb)
Syborg is a
graphical browser/editor for NT and Solaris. It allows you to quickly
browse your server, find objects by category (tables, procs, views,
triggers) and directly query and update/insert data and edit/execute
stored procs.
Sybernet is a shareware
Web/Sybase middleware that permits development of CGI applications
without cgi programming. Unlike web.sql, Sybernet produces all pages
from Sybase stored procedures. It also holds connections across pages.
These pages are really nice, and
contain a full working demo and extensive documentation. If you intend
to
do web sybase deveopment, I recommend that you check them out.

Scripts and Simple Utilities
Performance Monitor 2.0
(4/9/96)Readme A nice, simple
utility
that collects vmstat, iostat, and server statistics into a database (on
the
server you are monitoring). Extensive gnuplot reports can be run
monthly
to show you server capacity planning information. It does not compete
with
professional products, but if you dont have a capacity monitor, it is
quite
nice. Requires gnuplot.
Quick Statistics Monitor 2.0
(4/9/96)Readme A nice,
simple utility that loops to print server statistics. Useful to track
performance in (for example) a user test. Once monitoring is done (or
while monitoring - from another window), you may print gnuplot reports
to see graphically what happened. Requires extended
stored procedure library (v3). Requires gnuplot for pretty output.
There is a lot of good perl information out there, and all Sybase dba's
should have a basic understanding of the language. I have written
a
little document on the subject. It includes links and other good
stuff.

-> UNIX guys tend to like perl better, everybody else likes Tcl.
Check it out! For futher information on tcl check out De Clarke's page and a phone book
sybase / tcl / cgi application he designed.
